Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - LADY PANKHURST (7) nice filly with an unorthodox prep heading into this. Back in grade and trip when second to Oakfield Jupiter over 1000m at Wyong nine days ago. Her dam won the Wakeful Stakes (2000m), and she gives the impression the mile will suit. Goes close. TUPAKARA (1) four-start maiden who closed off strongly when third to the smart Nepotism over 1400m in the G3 TL Baillieu Handicap at Rosehill. Gets map favours here but must give weight to her rivals. Genuine top three player. MICHELANGELO (4) crying out for the mile after chipping away late when an unlucky sixth over 1400m in the G3 The TL Baillieu Handicap at Rosehill. Worth plenty of thought if he can race a little closer to the speed. POLISH PLAYGIRL (2) imposing filly who relished the extra ground at her second race start when a fighting third over 1400m at Flemington in the VG 2yo Plte. Winkers come off and ready to win. SPICY LU (5) tough filly from the Nick Olive yard undefeated in two runs. Keep safe from the draw.
RACE 2 - MAWJOOD (9) comes here hard fit and deserves his chance in this company. Just under three weeks between runs when tiring late to finish second over 1400m at Warwick Farm in BM78 class. Stables in form and will prove hard to get past. NOSTRINGSATTACHED (5) comes up from Victoria with excellent credentials. Kept fresh and fitted with a jump out after making it three straight victories when scoring over 1400m at Pakenham in the Future Stars. Shinn sticks and goes close. SERGEANT MAJOR (4) improving with racing and gives the indication he's looking for this trip and further now. Close enough in the run but no match for Autumn Glow when fourth in the LR Darby Munro over 1200m at Rosehill. Stays in the calculations. YOSHINOBU (3) total forgive from the awkward draw second up when tenth over 1200m at Rosehill in the LR Darby Munro. Poorly drawn again but can lift over this trip. CANARA (7) finished in the minor money at both runs back and capable of testing some of her more fancied rivals.
RACE 3 - RAPT (11) underrated mare who returns from a let-up. Proven this track and trip and will relish the strong tempo again after launching late for a commanding win at Hawkesbury in the Prov Mid Champs over 1400m on February 20. Genuine each way prospect. MATCHA LATTE (1) classy gelding who's come back much stronger this time in. Returned good figures second up when a comfortable on pace winner as fav over 1400m at Newcastle. Morgan sticks and placed in Group class this time last year. Respect. LORD OF BISCAY (2) racing in career-best form and likes his runs spaced. Covered plenty of ground in the run when a game second over 1400m in the Prov Mid Champs at Newcastle. Fitted with a recent 920m trial and maps to get the gun run. MAGNATEAR (3) three weeks between runs when a narrow second over 1350m at Wyong in the Prov Mid Wildcard. Will take catching from the inside gate. FRENCH RULER (4) finds form at the right time and stays in the mix. The chances don't end there.
RACE 4 - TEMPTED (2) tough filly who was desperately unlucky not to win the G1 Golden Slipper when getting out late to finish third over 1200m at Rosehill. Won over this track and trip two back and reunited with J Mac. Expected to go close in this easier contest. INKARUNA (5) fresh filly on the scene after attacking the line late when third to Tempted over 1200m in the G2 Reisling Stakes at this track. Kept up to the mark with a trial win at Randwick. Can race closer from the draw and prove hard to stop. MEMO (3) bypassed the Golden Slipper to be saved for this. Powered late to get off the mark when a deserved winner of the G3 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill over 1200m. Fitted with a recent 900m trial placing and the tongue-tie goes on. Respect. DREAM SIDE (8) well-bred filly who ran second to Marhoona on debut, before finishing a close second to Memo over 1200m in the G3 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill. Look for her late from the gate. WITHIN THE LAW (1) can bounce back.
RACE 5 - AUTUMN GLOW (8) exciting filly who demolished her rivals first up with a dominant victory over this trip in good time in the LR Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill. J Mac has plenty of options from the draw and she will remain unbeaten. PUBLIC ATTENTION (2) kept fresh after heading over to New Zealand when chipping away late from the outside gate to run eighth over 1500m in the LR The Kiwi over 1400m at Ellerslie. Kept ticking over since with a 900m trial. Well drawn and expected to take a hand in the finish. ENRICHED (3) has come back a more genuine colt this prep but outclassed when second to Autumn Glow in the LR Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill. Will be racing for the minor money again. PRIVATE LIFE (1) disappointed in both runs back against the older horses at the elite level. Kept ticking over since with a 900m Rosehill trial. Solid top four player. BIG SWINGER (6) comes up from Victoria with a good winning record and capable of giving a ton of cheek at the big odds.
RACE 6 - Looks a race of tactics in this intriguing contest. TREASURETHE MOMENT (2) won the VRC Oaks in the Spring and has kept the winning run going since. Sat on the speed when defeating an average field in the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill. Will appreciate this longer journey and prove hard to hold out. LEICA LUCY (1) makes her Australian debut after dominating the 3yo fillies' races in NZ. Pulled out plenty to make it five straight wins after saluting in the G1 New Zealand Oaks at Trentham. J Mac rides and can test the favourite. VERONA ROSE (4) up in grade and trip when closing off strongly to run fourth over 2000m in the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes. Looking for this trip and not to be underestimated. BELLE DETELLE (5) improving filly who takes on the A-graders now after winning the G3 Adrian Knox over 2000m here last Saturday. Place prospects look best. DUBAI GOLDRUSH (3) comes across from NZ in peak condition. Proven at the trip and sure to be thereabouts.
RACE 7 - ALALCANCE (8) lightly raced mare who keeps raising the bar as she steps up in grade and trip. Undefeated this prep and hard to see them turn the tables on her after she monstered her rivals with a slick 2.5 len win over 2600m in the G2 Chairman's Qlty at this track. Has the speed to slide across from the draw and drops 4.5kg for this. Goes close. ZARDOZI (6) massive effort when fourth in the Melbourne Cup last year. Has a sense of timing fifth up after finishing off strongly when third in the G1 Aust Cup over 2000m at Flemington. Has the figures to win this. BIRDMAN (15) improving gelding primed for this. Like the way he took good ground off Alalcance when second over 2600m in the G2 Chairman's Quality at this track. Will sit closer from the draw and get his chance. DUKE DE SESSA (1) Caulfield Cup winner who indicated he was on song for this after running second to Dubai Honour in the G1 HE Tancred Stakes at Rosehill. Gets map favours and keep safe. STRATHTAY (18) is a value player.
RACE 8 - VIA SISTINA (12) champion mare who ran second in this race last year to Pride Of Jenni. Went to a new peak when fourth up in the Cox Plate last year and is fourth up for this. Had plenty in the tank when winning the G1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill. Fitted with a recent 1000m trial and maps to get every chance. CEOLWULF (4) over his minor niggles earlier in the prep and he's back on track for his Grand Final. Showed his toughness when a nose winner of the G2 Nev Sellwood over 2000m at Rosehill. Wide draw suits his pattern as he likes plenty of galloping room. Top three prospect. DUBAI HONOUR (1) tough UK-trained gelding undefeated in three Australian starts and won this race in 2023. Class shone through when taking out the G1 Tancred over 2400m first up at Rosehill. This is stronger but you can never underestimate him. BUCKAROO (7) the bulk of his winning form is second up, and he closed off strongly when ninth in the G1 Ryder. Keep safe. FAWKNER PARK (9) is next best.
RACE 9 - FANGIRL (1) outstanding mare with an excellent record over the Randwick mile. Stormed home late for an unlucky second over 1500m in the G1 George Ryder at Rosehill. Tempo suits and will be charging strongly. STEFI MAGNETICA (2) backs-up quickly after getting up in the last stride when taking out the G1 Doncaster Mile at this track last Saturday. Finished a narrow fourth to Mr Brightside on the quick backup in the Cantala last November. Goes close. LAZZURA (12) nice filly who deserves her shot here. Tragedy beaten when getting out late to run second in the G2 Emancipation over 1500m at Rosehill. Berry sticks and she stays in the mix. ATISHU (3) tough mare with a good record in this race. Far from disgraced when fourth in the G1 Australian Cup over 2000m at Flemington. Conditions suit and worth plenty of thought. GRINZINGER BELLE (6) ran them into the ground when a slick winner over 1600m in the G2 Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley. This is tougher but can give plenty of cheek.
RACE 10 - COMMEMORATIVE (5) away slowly and held up badly in the straight when an unlucky seventh in the G1 The Galaxy over 1100m at Rosehill. Back out to the 1200m now and it should be a rinse and repeat when she won the Wenona Girl two back over this track and trip. TIZ INVINCIBLE (2) smart mare resuming from a lengthy break. Raced without luck last prep and comes here with a sharp 1050m trial placing under her belt. Blinkers come off and expect a forward showing. AUSTMARR (8) was rewarded for her consistency when leading throughout for an effortless victory over 1200m in the G3 Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill. Further improved and will prove hard to catch again. OLENTIA (3) had no luck all prep and back in distance for this after running a sound fourth in the G1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m at Rosehill. Fitted with a 900m trial since and stays in the calculations. COCO JAMBOO (6) drops sharply in weight after catching the eye first up when third in the G3 Birthday Card Stakes. Respect.
