Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - CALADAN (7) will be sitting right up on the speed as he has done twice and prove tough to get by. Won't have to work as hard this time though. Gets the added fitness too. DAPPER DON (8) led and was run down late first up. He went to town for his next outing and just found it too hard. Barrier hurts a bit now. PIRATE (5) probably kicks up here as well. He has been in the market at all his recent outings. COCKALEECHIE KID (2) was back in the field and couldn't get into his debut race. The gelding has trialled well enough since. LIGHT THE NIGHT (11) is from a strong stable so must be a watch for any moves.
RACE 2 - YES I BELIEVE (7) may come over with that speed and get a nice spot. He is having his first start since arriving from Victoria. Showed enough to start with to consider the ability is there. Market will tell. UNTIL DAWN (6) improved greatly coming back to this track. He should be up on the pace as well. Is back 200m for this. SEA ROADS (5) has been steadily improving. He just isn't getting any favours at the barriers. ICANHEARZOU (10) resumes here and is another to follow the money.
RACE 3 - AMBITIOUS CREEK (1) keeps putting himself there with a chance but of course the record shows he doesn't win often. The one go here was a very decent effort. TAKE A PICK (6) is certainly bred to be wanting these journeys. This is a good drop in company so must go close. GIORGI (11) took on far too hard a task in black type company then went way back in distance. The market will tell but will have fans. I'M PERMISSIBLE (2) back to a more reasonable race for him. Can place here.
RACE 4 - SMILING ASSASSIN (1) has to be very tough to beat dropping back from tougher benchmark races and coming from in town. It was a pretty decent run at Morphettville. Is up in weight and that run was last week. FLEURIEU FLIPPER (2) has form which reads poorly but looks to be crying out for more ground. BACK ME UP BENNY (5) put two nice seconds together and then just found Saturday grade too much. He has to contend. KIRKLISTON BLU (7) has been around the mark in recent outings. Will stick on. CARASHAN CHLOE (4) failed in a stronger race but it came off two wins.
RACE 5 - WILLASTON (7) was much improved when resuming at this course and distance. Does tend to run well here too. BELLENTIA (10) will be getting a long way back from the draw but that has been the pattern and did make up ground last time. SMASHING ACTION (6) will be one riding up near the front. Just needs some luck early getting over. DODD (1) could run a cheeky race out of a decent form guide.
RACE 6 - LAKE AGAWAM (2) was a long way back here two weeks ago and picked off a few late. If he can get a drag into the race, he can finish his races off strongly. FASHION DOG (1) has shown enough to be given a chance. He comes out of a very decent form race. Will just require some luck in the early stages. ARTISSI (4) is another not helped at the barriers but does get back anyway. Speed on will aid her chances. SHIKANIC (11) can improve third up. Is in quite light here. LANCELOTTO (8) draws a lot better in today's race.
RACE 7 - SAINT MICHAEL (4) is a winner here before and seems as though he has been waiting for the 1600m. He'll do no work at all in the run and as long as he gets clear at the right time, has to be right there at the end. RETOURNE (1) has the first outing since arriving from Victoria. A lot of his efforts were quite respectable but just has the one win. OBI (3) has had plenty of starts but his only go here was a victory. Will be getting a fair way back from the draw. JAMROCK (8) took no real part last time. Back to the turf should help. SEAFARING (15) is coming back in ground for this. Form has been OK.
RACE 8 - FIGHT FOR FREEDOM (11) is resuming at a good distance here and if the speed is on he can go well. Is a 9yo now though so hoping he's not too rusty first up. If he is then LISELLE'S LUCK (9) can sweep into the race. She is backing up and back in ground too. Could be some value. OFF THE CUFF (12) gets in well here with no weight and has been very consistent. Certainly has some luck with the barriers. CHARTIN (4) will work forward and set a nice speed. He races best doing just that. ALASKAN STORM (2) was solid before a spell then made ground at Mildura.
