Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - Looks to be a handful of chances before it drops away. CHALONG (2) should be ready to pounce third-up, having improved last start. Looks ready to tuck that maiden win away. BLAMEITONTHEBOOGIE (1) needs to be kept very safe on debut, after winning a recent trial for the Stevenson yard. No surprise to see him go well on this occasion. LA ZAMPA (5) fresh on the scene to Tasmania, and ratings suggest could give this a shake in his new environs. GUBER (3) should be thereabouts throughout and will be in this a long way.
RACE 2 - Fascinating contest for a Class 2 at Devonport. SIMPLY DEEP (1) is two wins from two career starts, and should lead these from the outset. He's the one they'll need to get past. BERSERKER (6) capable of a big finish and might be the one that pounces when it matters, especially if the pace is strong throughout. GARCON D'ESPOIR (2) ran fifth in the Tas Derby earlier this year, and looks a classy conveyance resuming. Might just be a level above these despite the much shorter trip. WHIPPIN PICCADILLY (8) wasn't far off the top pick resuming and offers a genuine threat today. PLATINUM REGGAE (7) comes through the same race and warrants each-way respect once again while NIGHT ACTION (3) resumes off a trial win and has a terrific record at this circuit.
RACE 3 - Good looking race with a bunch of genuine chances. Going with ARAYA SUNSHINE (8) on top, expecting her to be the one taking full advantage of a manic speed battle. She might just slot in behind the rush and get the last crack at them. Can be winning this on her best. THOROS OF MYR (2) was a big winner two back and then wasn't far off CORNELIAN BAY (1) last time. Those two must be respected again in this contest. GUNSHIP (9) looks better suited to this shorter trip and brings something different to this field. LISPECTOR (6) generally improves second-up and, and her setup looks favourable again today.
RACE 4 - Plenty of these have had plenty of chances. ALPINE TROUT (1) hasn't been far off in his last two, and gets the chance to dictate out in front again here. Happy to go with him on top. LORD HEAR US (3) is possibly the most progressive of these and might just beat the lot of them before moving onto bigger and better things. GEEGEE AUNTY JESS (11) looks suited to this trip and should be doing best work late. MANHATTAN NIGHTS (4) disappointed last time but earlier form suggests this is in his grasp. RAGING WATERS (5) possesses each-way potential although whether he can get past the top two remains to be seen.
RACE 5 - Very hard to go past HIGH TAIL EAGLE (1) in another competitive looking affair at Devonport. Comes into this off the back of two straight wins, and shapes as the one to beat once more today. RUBICK'S AFFAIR (5) provides plenty of interest, after being beaten less than two lengths in Cl2 company most recently. Rates the biggest danger today. STEELE MY SUNSHINE (4) has been around the mark of late and shouldn't be overlooked in this affair. WADDY WADDY (3) is third-up into this and looks to be ticking over very nicely. MOHNAR (2) is a handy galloper who comes right into the mix here on her best form.
RACE 6 - GEEGEES CITY BOY (1) looks to have landed in a suitable race, and relishes the all-weather track here at Devonport. Usually perform for Sanderson and looks to tick all the right boxes here. The one to beat. HURRICANE KETUT (3) ran a big race in the wet last time at Hobart, and can win this if that effort can be replicated on the all-weather surface. KIREINA MARUBRAH (6) should take up the running and give them plenty to think about. DESIGNER DREAMER (7) hasn't been too far off of late and shouldn't be left out of multiples. FROM PANTHERLAND (5) usually puts himself in the mix and should do so again here.
RACE 7 - Shapes as a decent contest for a Class 1 at Devonport. Have settled on BAYSIDE (1), who was only beaten a head as an odds-on pop last time. Should prove very difficult to beat again today. HIGHLAND DUEL (2) improved last time and should be ready to pounce third-up if the top pick falters. TWICE THE ICE (7) broke through for a strong maiden win resuming and could go right on with it today without shocking. ZOETE'S ROCK (8) produced a big effort at a price last time and won't be under the radar any more in this field. ALISENT (4) won resuming and wasn't far off last time. Returns to her preferred surface and must be included in the each-way mix.
RACE 8 - Shaping as a very intriguing feature race. ANYWAYS ROXIE (4) wasn't far off the top pick resuming and should take natural improvement. Don't be surprised to see her go one better today. SEYDOUX (3) is back in Tasmania after a few runs in Victoria, and tends to grow another leg at Devonport. Keep very safe. TSUNAMI SAM (2) always must be respected resuming and today is no different. ALPINE AFFAIR (6) goes well this track and should perform well again today. GEEGEE JET BY (7) has been kept fresh for this and turns up with different form lines. Might just be the wildcard.
RACE 9 - Small but competitive field to round out the program. SPRING BEAN (1) just got there last time, when the head-bobbing finish went in his favour. That's three from four since resuming this prep, and if anything he'll be even better placed today out to this trip. Stick with. MATEUS (4) will run this right out and has to be considered one of the main hopes. CHICANE (3) wasn't far off at latest and rates a big chance on best form, if he manages to run out the full 1880m. SHY GUY (2) just missed to the top pick last time and has to be included on that effort. FASHION FOX (5) is consistent enough to feature in the finish.
