Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - OFFSHORE (6) strikes this third-up on the back of a strong performance at Northam last time out when only 0.4L from the winner. The blinkers come off today and she's drawn ideally for the straight course at Pinjarra. Knocking on the door and looks set to shed the maiden tag. DARK OPAL (4) has had a few spins now but wasn't far away when in the market over 1100m at Northam 17 days ago. CJP now takes the ride and she's been placed in both runs at this track and trip. Can play a major role in the finish. THE MIGHTY BELL (7) was very good first-up at Northam when finishing behind Offshore, beaten 1.3L in a solid effort. She'll need some luck from the barrier, but if the breaks come she's a big chance on what she did last start. RULE THE REALM (3) is on debut and has impressed at the trials recently. Can make an impression on debut. CHEST OUT SWAGGER (2) is better than we saw last start and can feature first-up.
RACE 2 - WON FOR THE GIRLS (2) retains Pike in the irons and gets the blinkers on after a 0.8L defeat as a $1.60 pop last start at Bunbury. She's gone under at odds-on her past couple, but with some gear changes and a positive racing pattern, her luck is bound to change. Rates highly and can get the job done this time. MAGICAL SEQUENCE (8) resumes for the Jason Miller yard and has been very impressive under Gaerth at the trials coming into this. The wide draw is a niggle, though she has run on well from the back previously and with plenty of upside, she appears the main danger. SECRET INTENT (7) resumes from a 102-day break without a trial but has turned in some strong performances in the past. She's likely to be back from the draw, but she looks well placed in this event and should be storming home late. THE AGENCY (1) wasn't beaten far last start when up on the speed and should be in the finish again. YOU CAN CALL ME AL (5) has impressed at his latest couple of trials and won't be far away.
RACE 3 - IMPRESSIVE JEWEL (5) jumped favourite at Northam first-up and just peaked on the run late when beaten 0.4L. She'll be fitter for that effort with only one trial coming in and that form has already been franked. Ticks plenty of boxes up in trip and can go one better this time. ROMANTIC RULER (1) sat on the speed and was only 1.8L behind the Raconteur Stakes winner Opportunistic 22 days ago, with that form working out very well. Should be nearing his peak third-up and although he's had a few chances, he rates very highly on his latest effort. GOLD ENIGMA (9) bumped into a smart one at Northam last start over the mile when sticking on to the line. She now gets Pike in the saddle back to 1500m and with plenty of improvement expected, she'll play a major role. CHIN CHIN (3) gets the blinkers on for his fresh effort and won't be far away. IFF YOU'RE READY (7) was solid first-up from a long way back and has to be included out in trip.
RACE 4 - SWEET SURRENDER (10) stuck on well from a long way back first-up at Bunbury and steps right up in trip now. She was impressive second-up over 1650m last campaign and now up to 1800m looks to suit this daughter of Pierro. While she's likely to get back again, she looks a sharp improver and can be flying home late. DAME D'ARGENT (12) is another 3YO filly who looks suited by the sharp rise in trip. She hinted she was a staying type first-up and Pike sticking is a positive sign now up in distance. Has upside an can put her best foot forward. WOLFMAN (2) hasn't been far away in recent efforts and now steps out to this distance where he has been placed before. May need some luck from the barrier but if he can run up to recent figures, he'll be right in the finish. PRETEY ROYAL (7) is ticking along well without winning and steps up to this distance for the first time. Has claims. LAKEVIEW LIGHTNING (3) can roll forward and give them something to chase.
RACE 5 - STARWALKER (2) got the job done as the race favourite last start over 2200m at Northam, sitting midfield and sprinting away for a big win. He maps for a similar run in transit this time around and O'Donnell has ridden him to victory previously. Can go on with the job. GRAND RESERVE (1) sat on the speed and got the job done over 2000m here two runs before before folding up late over this track and trip 19 days ago. He's better than what he showed there and the 3kg claim comes in handy. Can male his own luck on the speed again and be in this for a long way. DARK LOOKS (5) has her hoof on the till following a strong performance over the mile at Northam 17 days ago. She steps right up in trip now, but she's placed 3/3 at the distance. Looks ready to strike now and can play a major role. BAY STREET (9) hasn't been far away in recent efforts and has to be included up in distance. SIR DUSKIN (3) got a long way back last start but the form has worked out well. In the mix.
RACE 6 - CJP opts to ride AUTO CRUISE (9) following a strong debut win at Northam, with that form already being franked. She sat close to the speed there and still got the job done while doing plenty wrong in the process. Looks to have some class about her and can go on with the job. JUST FAMOUS (6) went close with ZJP riding a fortnight ago when first-up over 1200m, beaten under a length in a good effort. A soft track will be ideal for him, as will the rise in distance. Drawn much better this time and can land the knockout blow. HOPE TO RULE (12) held on for her maiden win as a $26 chance last start at Bunbury and has performed well in stronger events in the past. Pike now takes the ride in a good push for her chances and she'll be strong late in the race. LEETRON (3) was too good on debut before heading to the paddock for a long spell. Nice trial coming in this time however and he can play a leading role. CLASSIC IMPACT (11) won't be far away.
RACE 7 - BARECOVE ROCK (2) got the job done two back which proved a strong form reference before getting too far back and never featuring at Ascot 43 days ago. He's been freshened since then and has a quiet trial at Belmont. He's likely to get back in the run, but he's shown plenty of promise thus far and can return to winning ways. LEAD BY EXAMPLE (6) resumes with a nice trial under her belt recently. Pike liked what he saw there and hops in the saddle despite not riding her in that outing. She'll be better over further, but she has placed first-up in the past and the trial suggested she's ready to go. PROCESSIO (13) is better than what she showed last start when settling back and never getting into the race. Back to 1400m now looks a big tick, as does the inside draw, and she can return to form. SHOW THE WAY (1) looks an improver third-up and out in distance and is worth including. RANYX (3) won well last start and may prove tough to run down from the front yet again.
RACE 8 - OISIN (5) hasn't been far away his past couple, jumping the equal favourite at Bunbury last start when beaten 3.4L. He has the speed to offset the wide draw and staying at the mile looks ideal at this stage. Can make his own luck and will prove very tough to run down if he holds his form. SNIPPERANDO (6) made it back-to-back wins last start with an impressive 2.2L victory in a CL3 at Northam when back to the mile. The wide draw may be a niggle, but she may be able to follow Oisin across from the deep and be handy in the run. Hard to knock her recent form and looks a major player again. FLASH PADDY (3) comes through the same race as Oisin when first-up and never really getting into the race. He usually improves second-up however and the senior jock replaces the apprentice. Ticks a few boxes and can put his best foot forward. LANO (8) was far too good last start and can repeat the dose, albeit this is tougher. WOZZECK (7) is in the mix if he returns to his best form.
