Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - SIENA WOLF (12) is back on turf and two back missed 1L here. She's ready for the longer sprint and has a low gate and the blinkers off. WOOLCLASSER (5) also went close in that contest, and it was a big effort. Has the rails gate and may get it softer in transit. Keeps the 2kg claim and has been maintained with a trial. GENUINE LADY (8) has a key jockey switch with Darmanin replacing apprentices. Maps well and is capable of more. SOUTH GEORGIA (13) went close first up, hitting the line well. She'd won a trial and has a chance with average luck from the awkward barrier. ORISKANY (11) has his third start since the switch from a Victorian stable. He'd be right in it at best and look for improvement.
RACE 2 - Tricky. RAWABI (6) resumes and the former Victorian is right up to this at best. Maps well and he trials have been good. He looks ready to go. MISS DE LUNE (15) resumes and is back with John Keys after a lone outing in Victoria. She showed plenty some time ago on debut and they are persevering. Darmanin's engagement suggests she's pleasing. Draws inside and the betting will be key. TRIBAL COUNCIL (7) debuts and has jumped out in Victorian before the stable switch. Has a handy 2kg claim and has to be kept safe. VANSITTART (12) was better beaten 1.6L here and has been kept on the fresh side. Needs a good ride but has a fitness edge on some.
RACE 3 - SNOWDONIA (2) brought strong form to resumption and looked a run short despite heavy backing. Proven second up and will take beating. The top hoop gets off the above to ride HUBUBBAJAHN (6) who resumes owning a trial win. Has the blinkers on again and she will use an inside barrier. All things point to a good return. OHSHE'STROUBLE (1) is a former Victorian who was good on the synthetic first-up. Uses the rails gate and her metro and provincial form stacks right up. SAY IT WITH WORDS (3) needed it first up on the synthetic and is much better on the grass. Proven second up and has claims. PHERE THE GIRLS (9) won a trial and wasn't beaten too far first-up. The claim is handy and he best would have here around the mark.
RACE 4 - BAYBOUGG (5) came from the back to miss a nose and still has plenty up the sleeve. Tumbles in weight at this level and that brings him right into it. Has Pires and is proven third-up. THE LAST HURRAH (3) races forward and deserved the comfortable CL1 win. Keeps improving and gets in well with the 2kg claim. WEDNESDAY'S BOSS (8) peaks and was beaten 1L in the Baybougg race. Carries a feather at this level with a 2kg claim atop, and she should be right in it. LA VIRAGO (9) was beaten a nose in that contest and may have had an issue following. Maps well and has to be kept safe on a two-week return. JUST CRUISIN' (1) resumes and would be right in the finish at best. He's trialled well but has been off the scene for 534 days, so plenty of trust is required.
RACE 5 - BELLA CHINKARA (8) resumed off a trail win with a narrow defeat in Maidens. Two back she was only beaten 3L in Stakes grade and is well placed here down in the weights. Maps well and can go one better. ONLYFORAMINUTE (1) debuted in Maidens on the synthetic and was too good. She's trialled well on turf and presents off a freshen. Has has plenty of scope for improvement. BRIGHT NIGHT (3) resumes off a win this grade and will likely race forward. A live chance if presented forward. MISS LYRA (10) did a good job from a wide barrier on debut. Draws awkwardly again but will strip fitter and deserves consideration. JENNI THE CAT (9) draws much better today, and third-up is likely to show more.
RACE 6 - Competitive AL MAXIMUS (3) is busting to win and was narrowly beaten this track/trip in stronger two weeks ago. Maps for a soft run and keeps the 1.5kg claim. GODDESS OF ROCK (5) has a similar profile. Finished alongside the above last time after settling back and gets in well again at the weights. She's capable of settling closer and is a winning chance. Stablemate HAPPY CLAN (1) was close up in the same contest back from an Open win over a staying trip. The 2kg claim brings him into it. PENNINE (2) made good improvement, narrowly beaten in the same race and can't be ruled out. Ditto DOONICAN (7), who just missed at odds and will find a comfortable lead. Fitter and is sure to give a sight.
RACE 7 - SKIN IN THE GAME (1) peaks and has won his last two at the track a well-supported favourite. The gate is a touch sticky, but he keeps the top hoop and rates to go on with the job. SKY LAND (4) has had two runs back and is ready to fire. She gets in well with the 2kg claim and will push forward. She's right up to this. CARNELIAN ROCK (6) won over a mile and coming back in trip shouldn't be an issue. Her placing here three back would have him in the finish. I'M KEEFE (11) led and just missed twice over a mile before a plain effort last time, missing the kick. He will use the rail and will carry a feather. Has to be considered. THIN RED LINE (8) has been racing well shy of his best but will carry just 53kg with the claim and positions forward.
RACE 8 - ANYWAYS ROXIE (6) is ready to win and comes back to the turf on a quick backup. Rates best and is proven third-up. ALPINE THUNDER (8) led and found more like his best narrowly missing in a CL4. Won his only third-up outing and has 3kg weight relief at this level. FURNEAUX (1) was quickly on track winning a 68. He can use an inside barrier and the top hoop stays aboard. Briefly freshened he will get every chance to go back-to-back. RIGOLETTO (4) has been mixing trips and form. He'd been right in it at best, but has to bring his A-game. TURK BOY (5) resumes seeking the hat trick and flies fresh. Has to push over from a wide barrier but can't be ruled out.
RACE 9 - JUST A NEEDS (3) deserved the comfortable CL4 win over a mile heavily-bet and dropping back a bit in trip won't be a bother. Draws an insde gate today and with the weight relief rates to go on with the job. WINEGLASS BAY (2) resumes and has switched from the Chris Waller yard. He has compelling form over middle distances, but has won over this trip and trialled well enough. May be wound up, and the betting will be key. SAILOR (6) has been knocking on the door over a mile and presents freshened. Gets in light and will enjoy a soft run. Gets his chance. GEE GEE MISS QUITA (4) has the top rider and has more to give. In the mix.
RACE 10 - FIORENTE DE LEGEND (6) was plainer last time but brought strong form to that and hits this race at peak. Pires is on for Darmanin, and she deserves another chance. The latter switches to LI'L HAIL MARY (4), who comes out of the same contest. He's also busting to win and has winning claims. MIGHTYMAXI (5) spiked his figures, winning a CL2 on the synthetic 7 days ago. Races forward and may have turned the corner. ROMANESCO FRESCO (8) led and won a CL4 here at big odds, and he'd be chance holding that level on performance. RICH CLAN (3) led and was much better here last time. Should be around the mark.
