Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - ALABAMA ELEGANCE (5) disappointed last start at Northam after going under as favourite here first-up. Up to 1200m now doesn't look an issue and the inside barrier should see her close to the speed. Can make her own luck with Corver back on board and she looks the one to beat. THE SHARERGHINI (4) resumes today for a new stable after switching to the Peter Fernie barn following his last trial on the 9th of June where he got the job done. He looks well placed at this level and was tested in stronger company to end last campaign. Looks in good order and can put his best foot forward. HERLS (6) is on debut for Luke Fernie with Brayden Gaerth in the saddle. He's trialled as though the extra trip will suit first-up after only going over 400m in all four of his trials. Strikes a suitable race and can play a major role. WITCHY WOODS (1) showed a glimpse last start and won't be far away. Next best is BONDI'S SON (3).
RACE 2 - INNER JOY (6) never really got into the race lats start at Pinjarra, running behind the Raconteur Stakes winner Opportunistic. That form has worked out brilliantly and she'll find this a much more suitable assignment. She maps to get her chance and she looks poised to strike now. FOREVER FALYON (5) resumes for the Ballantyne stable and will be fitter for a recent trial. She got out over a trip last time in work and showed ability in doing so. This looks a good spot for her on her return and the booking of Fiore is a good push for her chances. Can make her presence felt. KING OF FRANCE (1) has been solid his past couple of efforts, sitting on the speed and beaten 1.8L most recently. Should be right up front again from a favourable barrier and the inside draw suits. Around the mark recently and should get his chance. IFFUBLUSH (3) will be better for the fresh run and has placed 2/3 at this track and trip. In the mix. QUEEN OF WHISPERS (4) won't be far away.
RACE 3 - CLOSE AT HAND (2) was a touch slow into stride, but that didn't matter last start when bolting in by 3.5L at this track and trip. She rises in weight, but it's hard to see anything turning the tables on her from last start after jumping the $1.50 favourite. Drawn perfectly and can repeat the dose. ONEMOREFORLEO (5) comes back to the 1400m journey after being narrowly beaten over 1760m last time out. He boasts a strong record at this track and trip however and he gets in light after the 4kg claim. Can be in the finish if he holds his form back in distance. EEVALINA (4) will find this a touch easier than recent efforts when beaten 3.1L in Saturday company at Pinjarra 22 days ago. Faithfull rides now and her recent form stacks up highly. Out in trip, but can make her presence felt. HIGH PRESSURE (3) is ticking along nicely and won't be far away. VILLEINS (1) was sound here fresh and can improve with the run under his belt.
RACE 4 - SCIENCE DEGREE (6) has been impressive this time in work and the slight drop in trip may be what he's looking for after being caught late in recent events. The 4kg claim comes in handy and she'll be up front from the favourable alley. Racing in top order and can land the knockout blow. DREAMERS NEVER DIE (3) resumes today after switching to the Dion Luciani barn and now back to Peter Fernie since his latest run in November. Faithfull's engagement is a strong push for his chances and he is a fresh winner in the past. Wouldn't surprise to see him get over the top late in the race. LOVE DRUNK BABY (1) has bumped into one in-form his past couple and gets some weight relief this time wit the claim of Tsang. Should be close to the speed and can make an impression. MAGNASONIC (2) can resume on a good note after a nice trial recently. PEARLY NUGGETT (4) won't be far away.
RACE 5 - FIENDISH (7) flew home last start from a long way back to just miss here 21 days ago. Nitika Riordan takes 4kgs off and while he hasn't won for a while, the latest effort suggested he wasn't far off another. Ticking along nicely and hits a suitable race this time around. RULING DAME (1) jumped favourite over the mile here last start and couldn't run down her rivals when over the mile last time out. Back to 1200m is a strange play, though she is 28 days between runs and the visors go back on. Rating last start stacks up, she just needs to run to that level over this trip. ULTIMATE PARADISE (2) was too good in a CL2 here last start when sitting close to the speed and winning by 0.5L. That form may have been franked by now and she has the speed to offset the sticky gate. Ticks a few boxes and won't be far away. CLASSIC CODE (3) never got into the race last start and can bounce back. CALL TIME (9) is next.
RACE 6 - ON JUST TERMS (8) sat on the speed and was far too good for her rivals here 21 days ago, bolting in by 2.3L. This looks to shape similarly and while she drops back to 1300m this time, that doesn't appear an issue. Looks a filly on the way up and she can bring up back-to-back wins. QUEEN'S SACRIFICE (7) has been close to the speed her past couple, scoring over 1400m last start in this grade. She'll be able to roll across from the sticky gate and she's a winning hope if she can run up to her recent figures. PRETTY DEVINE (2) missed by 3.8L last start in a much stronger race and looks better suited to this event today. The 3kg claim comes in handy and she's expected to bounce back to her best form under suitable circumstances. KAKADU (3) flew home to just miss last start and has to be included. SCOTTISH LAIRD (1) can improve back in grade after a couple of disappointing efforts recently.
RACE 7 - DATE WITHTHE DEVIL (4) is a lightly-raced gelding who joins the Fernie stable following a disappointing run at Northam last time out. He was an impressive winner here last year and he still has some scope for improvement. Looks well placed in this event and a return to his best form will see him hard to hold out. THATSTHEWAYILIKEIT (7) is better than he's shown her past couple and gets out to 1400m for the first time today. She's open to plenty of improvement out in distance and she looks to get her chance if she's good enough. THE JESTER'S SON (1) makes his WA debut for the Harding stable after racing for the Lindsay Park operation in Victoria to begin his career. No trials coming in, but the form last campaign makes for good reading and he's a big chance if he can pick up where he left off. SABINO (9) is a niggle back in trip but rates highly on his recent effort where he was narrowly beaten. EDWARD'S CHOICE (2) is not to be discounted first-up.
