Racing & Sports expert selections.
RACE 1 - Several progressive types line up in the opener. ANGEL TORQUE (6) is one of them and looks a great chance to add another win to her CV. She wasn't beaten far in a strong feature race last start and looks ready to peak third-up. She has a tricky barrier but is versatile. ANOTHERHOUSE (1) looks the main danger. He loomed as the winner first-up but looked to peak on his run late. He has won two of his three second-up runs so it's hard to imagine he won't improve with that run under his belt. He is drawn to get a cosy run just behind the speed. EVEN SHARPER (2) doesn't win out of turn but he also rarely runs poorly. He is capable in this grade. Including PRODIGAL LAD (3) and NICISH (10) in wider plays.
RACE 2 - Deep race for an off-season three-year-old contest. THE SPRINKLER (2) was brilliant when winning a feature race last time. He hasn't hit his ceiling yet and looks well placed to win again here. Tricky draw but he gets the services of leading jockey Jake Toeroek. ENUFF SEDUCTION (4) comes out of the same race as The Sprinkler and caught the eye late. On his best form, which includes a Stakes placing behind subsequent Group 1 winner Reserve Bank, he looks the biggest danger. PURFECT LINE (7) just keeps racing well and can run a cheeky race from a good draw. COLMAR (1) is a classy type and looks like he's getting back to something like his best. Throwing TRIPOD TERROR (8) in trifectas and first fours.
RACE 3 - DYER (7) gets in with a 3kg claim and that sees him right down in the weights. He has a bit of class on his day and history suggests he runs well fresh. Don't overlook SILVER LIFESTYLE (12) on his best form. The drop back to 1000m is interesting but he can run well with what looks a nice set up for him today. Can make a case for BEEN OUR ANGEL (6) who can mix her form as shown in recent performances. She's a winner on a soft deck previously and if he gets a touch more luck in running this time, he can play a major role. BRISTLER (3) missed by 1L last start when tiring close to home, but that effort laid a nice platform for him to build on third-up into the campaign. Maps to get his chance and looks a key player in the race. RICH GINA (4) boasts a strong fresh record and has to be included, particularly with Holder in the saddle.
RACE 4 - Another race in which Victorian trainer Tom Dabernig has one of the top seeds. FICKLE (6) boasts some brilliant form and was only run down late at Murray Bridge last start. Looks the likely leader from a low draw and will take some catching. Another interstate visitor in BEAST MODE (1) looks the main danger. He's got a dynamite first-up record and his trials suggest the horse has returned as good as ever. The 1.5kg claim helps his cause. SIR NOW (2) is flying and there's no reason why he can't run well again. LINGANI (5) is a Stakes winner at her best and must be respected first-up, while GRAND HOST (12) has claims on a wet track. Was in good touch prior to a disappointing effort recently and can bounce back.
RACE 5 - A race that has thrown up subsequent G1 winners in recent seasons. Interesting edition with several converging form lines. The Victorian visitor ETHEREUM GIRL (6) brings winning form and looks a nice horse in the making. She's drawn well and is bred to enjoy the rise to 1400m. No better stable for 2YO winners this season. She can win. SYNTHESISE (9) is another that will handle the jump to 1400m. She should've finished closer last start and has a bit of class. She needs to overcome a wide draw. MOSTLY FOR SHOW (3) is getting closer to a win and should be peaking third-up. MATAHGA (1) is a last-start winner and has upside, while OAK PARK MADDISON (10) is open to improvement.
RACE 6 - Even race with plenty of chances. TEST THE LAW (2) looks a danger on his best form, although he does seem to be racing a length of two below his best. Don't overlook because he's drawn well, fitter with three runs under his belt and can bounce back. GOTTABESAVVY (6) is another that is capable of better and is worth including in this line-up. MAGNETIC EDGE (7) is on the seven-day back-up after a strong win, while EXALTED FIRE (5) is ready to win after going down in a photo finish last start. MARK OF THE MAN (12) just missed behind Magnetic Edge last5 start and steps out in trip once again with Linda Meech making the trip across to ride. Right in the mix on his recent ratings.
RACE 7 - Another deep race with a few winning chances. METRICAL (9) hasn't done much wrong this preparation and looks well placed to find the winner's stall again in this grade. He's drawn low and gets a senior jockey back on. He's the horse to beat. DELIGHTFUL SHECKY (4) has ability and is going better than his form looks on paper. He's drawn wide but he can be in the finish if things go his way in the run. EXTRA HOT (13) is flying with back-to-back wins and, while this looks tougher, she's got a damaging turn of foot and will be hitting the line hard. Include THREE RINGS (7) and NOBLE STYLE (11) in wider plays.
RACE 8 - SURPRISE COMING (2) is going well this campaign and can win again. He was a winner in Melbourne two starts back, then ran well in a stronger race last time. The 3kg claim for an in-form apprentice elevates his chances. He's the horse to beat. TAHNEE TREASURE (4) has been runner-up at her last two starts, although no match for the winner last start. She's on the cusp of getting back to her best and this might be the race for her. THE MANSMAN (10) was huge from last at Murray Bridge and can go on better here. Last start winners STRATUM PRIDE (12) and CRUZ MISSILE (5) must be included in wider plays.
RACE 9 - KATIM'S CLUB (11) hasn't run a bad race of late and was narrowly beaten on a wet track at Casterton most recently. The Soft ground today won't pose an issue and, from the inside draw, should get a cheap run to be in the finish again. There has been merit in all three runs this campaign by SHISUTA BO (9), who draws well to stalk the speed. The 3kg claim of Tootell comes in handy and while she's 0/7 on a wet track, her last start was solid enough to suggest she can run a big race again today. There's no reason why HIGHLANDS (3) can't go close again after an impressive all-the-way win last time. He commands plenty of respect. STREETCAR APOLLO (15) is hard to knock on recent form and has to be included.
